The online world is so fascinating; and when our desires, technology and advocacy come together, we can change the world, large and small. So, some of us are trying to bring back the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, which premiered on HBO with Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose. The show is engaging, interesting, set in Botswana and I found it absolutely refreshing TV. I already love HBO, this made me love them even more. Plus, I love Jilly from Philly and our girl, the first Black Disney Princess, Anika Noni Rose, so all of this works well together!

Getting Back to Fit and Fabulous
The Immaculate Reception
I’m inconsistent with my workouts; and I’m a late night eater. If I can conquer these two issues, I will rule the world my backyard.
I’m trying to start a running program; but when I was ready to start, we had a snowstorm and, well, I was more dedicated to the warmth in my blankets than the treadmill.
But, but, BUT! I did start my first workout the next week. And I thought I was going to die. Wait, no I didn’t. I actually felt fine. I worked out hard, I sweated, we lifted weights, did squats with jumps and alot of whole body exercising (which is what I prefer).
But the next day? THE NEXT DAY??!!! LAWD!!!! HEP MEH! HEP MEH!
My legs felt like bricks. Brick ovens, to be precise. My arms were tight. My abs were yelping for help and I was moving like I should be living in a nursing home. It... Posted in Ask Dr. Goddess, Beauty, Featured, Food, Social Media Read More
Are You for Fannie Lou? Let’s Put Up Her Statue!
Folks,
You’ve been doing a great job and it’s time for us to expand our efforts and meet our goals for the Fannie Lou Hamer Statue!
Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Gardens, Ruleville,, MS
The statue will be located at the Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Gardens in Ruleville, MS, which sits upon the “Freedom Farm” Mrs. Hamer created to provide economic independence for those willing to risk their employment to take a stand and change the world.
So far, we’ve raised $32,000 and $2,000 of that came from Twitter! Great job!
We need $135,000 to complete this campaign and your small contributions of $5 – $10 are extremely helpful. If you give at least $5, we will include you on our website.
Can we put our hands together and get this Fannie Lou Hamer Statue up?
Let a Sista know. . . Are YOU for Fannie Lou?
If so,... Posted in Activism, Featured, Politics, Social Media, Travel Read More
The Personal is Political: No Wedding, No Womb Pt. II
I’m a fan of Ashley Judd and Marisa Tomei (who got her start as “Maggie” on “A Different World”), so naturally, at some point in 2001, I didn’t turn the channel when a movie entitled, “Someone Like You” aired, since they appeared on screen. Unless they’re of the Jerry McGuire or Bridget Jones variety, I try not to consume hoards of romantic comedies centered on white people. And you know why, including all the intelligent white folks reading… I’m trying to maintain a high level of self-esteem, a somewhat healthy body image and the hope that Mr. Right will show up with a Malcolm X fedora, a Morpheus trench and set of shades and wearing flip flops like “Black Jesus”. We shall see…
In any event, “Someone Like You” is, well, this review is so... Posted in Activism, Ask Dr. Goddess, Featured, Politics, Social Media Read More
