Mi Gente,
I love Netroots Nation.
When I was asked to be a part of a panel at Netroots Nation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2009, I had no idea my life would be changed (again). We were talking Hip Hop and Politics with Rev. Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus, Davey D of Hard Knock Radio, Paradise Gray of X-Clan, Jasiri X of Real Talk XPress and, yours truly, Dr. Goddess of the Revelations Blog and Dr. Goddess Arts, Education and Management Co. (academics always pick long titles, forgive us!). Our panel was phenomenal, as was the entire conference of progressive folks who work online and offline to improve the human race.
2010 in Las Vegas was even better because I understood...

For Colored Girls Poster Art
Folks,
This is my entree into Vlogging and the launch of a series I’m calling “The Life of the Mind with Dr. Goddess” (copyright 2011) . The phrase, “the life of the mind” is in reference to persons involved in academia and/or persons committed to a lifetime of intellectual engagement. I’ve broadened this, of course, to include anyone with a critical (and preferably, beautiful) mind.
The Backstory: I walked into a relative’s home, saw the poster, lost my mind and whipped out a camera. Any questions?
I’ll be posting a full blog on Tyler Perry’s 34th Street Film, “For Colored Girls” (based upon Ntozake Shange’s choreopoem, For Colored Girls Who’ve Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Was Enuff) but please let me know what you think...

If Revolution Were an After Thanksgiving Day Sale
a sign, flashing in fluorescent colors
would declare the revolution
“NOW OPEN”
for all the sisters and brothers
And when the doors opened and the red ribbon was cut
we would rush to tear down the walls of the prison industrial complex
and a sign encouraging accountability, self actualization and healing
would declare each freed man and woman as being
“Under New Management!”
If Revolution Were an After Thanksgiving Day Sale
we would push and shove our way to the voting booths
and if the numbers didn’t add up, we would snatch up the red tape
tie it around the electoral college’s neck and relentlessly demand an accurate count
forcing our way to the truth, justice and righteousness of a fair price
